Retention by Program

Each student is categorized by their primary program (Academic Interest or Major) and admit campus as recorded in myWSU during their first fall term. College-campus reports roll up into an All-WSU college-level report for systemwide analysis. Outcomes are grouped as:

• Retained or Graduated in College
• Retained or Graduated at WSU
• Left WSU

• If a student changes AIs or majors within the college of their first declared AI or Major, that student is consider Retained or Graduated in College. Retained in College accounts for students who have left this program for another program within the same college.
• IPEDS Minority includes American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian, Black/African American, Hispanic/Latino, Native Hawaiian/Other Pacific Islander, and Two or More Races.
• If a student changed his/her primary program AI or Major and is retained to another college, or has graduated in another college, then that student is considered Retained or Graduated at WSU.
• The College of Nursing conducts a secondary admission process specific to their undergraduate program. Students entering with an AI in Nursing are not advised by the college.
• The School of the Environment (SOE) is treated in these reports as a separate unit from its respective shared colleges. If a student changes from an SOE academic interest or Major to another AI or Major within the respective shared college, that student is considered “Retained or Graduated in College.” 
• The Data Analytics program, being shared between the Voiland College of Engineering and Architecture and College of Arts and Sciences, is treated like any SOE programs as listed above. Duplicate reports are generated in both the Voiland College of Engineering and Architecture and College of Arts and Sciences tab.

While these data have all been summarized, there are instances of small cell sizes (cells with fewer than five) of student data that may create FERPA issues if the data were re-disclosed. This is made available to you as a school official and is for internal use for legitimate WSU educational interests. See the http://registrar.wsu.edu/rights-and-privacy for more information. If you wish to re-disclose any data herein that includes student data with cell sizes fewer than five, then contact the Office of the Registrar prior to re-disclosing the data, and our office will work with you to provide data appropriate to your disclosure needs and consistent with FERPA requirements.

Retained or Graduated Tab

• Retention is defined as “Retained to the following fall semester.”
• Graduation is defined as “Graduated in the same year.”
• Retained or Graduated is defined as “Graduated in that year or retained to the following fall.”
• Retained or Graduated in Program: The number of students who are still enrolled in the primary program or plan, academic interest (AI) or major, they first declared when enrolling at WSU.
• Retained or Graduated in College: If a student has changed academic interest (AI) or majors from their first primary program or plan into another program within the college of their first declared AI or major.
• Retained or Graduated at WSU: A student is retained or graduated at WSU if they have changed AIs or majors but are no longer enrolled within their first declared program and college.
• Left WSU: A student has left WSU without graduating.

Graduated Tab

• Graduated in Program: The number of students who have graduated in their primary program and plan.
• Graduated in College in other program: The number of students who have graduated in another degree program within the college of their first declared academic interest or major at time of entry.
• Graduate at WSU in other college & program: The number of students who have graduated in another degree program not within their first declared academic interest or major or college.
