Data at WSU

Reaching data excellence

Driving WSU’s success with effective data strategies

We are here to support WSU’s strategic objectives through the effective management and use of WSU’s data.

Effective data management is essential at WSU. Standardizing and sharing data practices can allow us to leverage data across a wider audience, eliminate silos, and improve data literacy- making data more accessible and useful across the university.

During the strategic planning process, the university community expressed the need for better data management; this led to the creation of the data management program and the Data and Analytics Governance Council.

Moving WSU Forward

PURPOSE

The Data & Analytics Governance Council at WSU provides leadership in data-related decisions. Their collective goals are to:

  • Treat data as a strategic asset that aligns with WSU’s mission.
  • Sponsor data management initiatives to fulfill the university’s long-term vision.
  • Review and approve major data and analytics projects promptly.

ROLE

The Council is responsible for:

  • Setting strategic governance priorities and defining clear objectives.
  • Promoting data governance practices and reporting performance.
  • Approving data-centric roles, processes, and policies.
  • Monitoring key data initiatives and advocating for funding.
  • Acting as the final decision-making authority for data activities, except those requiring Executive Steering Committee recommendations.

PEOPLE

The Council standardizes and shares effective data management practices, improving data literacy and eliminating siloed efforts. It also enforces data standards, policies, and procedures through a visible, accountable group of Data Trustees and Advisors.

The Council is Chaired by the Assistant Vice President for System Strategy and Insight in the Office of Strategy, Planning, and Analysis. The council comprises data trustees with broad responsibility and accountability for WSU’s data assets.
